Description
Key Features
Specifications

The Roubaix Armadillo Elite is an endurance road tire equally at home on smooth and rough roads alike. It’s fast like any competitive road tire, with a unique casing featuring bead-to-bead protection for added puncture resistance. The 25mm casing smooths your ride and keeps you fresh, while the 23mm tread handles quickly. Slick center tread for low rolling resistance and shoulder sipes for increased surface adaptation and grip. Roll with confidence.

• GRIPTON Compound: Low rolling resistance with excellent dry and wet grip the endurance variant of Specialized’s flagship compound.
• Armadillo Elite Flat Protection: Bead-to-bead puncture protection the most comprehensive flat resistance in the road lineup.
• 120 TPI Casing: Supple, dense construction that balances durability with performance feel.
• 25mm Casing / 23mm Tread: 25mm casing width smooths rough roads; 23mm tread width for quick handling response.
• Shoulder Sipes: Siped shoulders adapt to rough surfaces and increase grip in corners.
• Folding Bead: Lighter than wire, easy tubeless or tube setup.

Use: Endurance road riding, rough-road events, training where reliability matters. Named after the Paris-Roubaix “Hell of the North” the ultimate endurance road race with pave sections that destroy lesser tires. If your roads have chips, glass, or debris, this is the tire.

Endurance vs Race Tires
The Roubaix Armadillo Elite is built for rough roads, not pure speed. The Armadillo Elite flat protection adds weight (310g vs 250-285g for race tires) but means you actually finish your rides. The GRIPTON compound still delivers low rolling resistance it’s not a slow tire, just a protected one. If you ride anything other than pristine smooth asphalt, the Roubaix pays off: reviewers report running through glass, staples, and debris that destroy non-Armadillo tires. One reviewer says these are “the fat kid of road tires” heavier but able to handle abuse that race tires can’t.

Bead-to-Bead Protection
Unlike tires with flat protection only under the center tread, Armadillo Elite is bead-to-bead the protection runs the entire circumference. This matters on rough roads where debris can reach the sidewalls. Reviewers confirm it works: one ran over a sharktooth rock at 5,000 miles and only got one flat; another had staples stuck in the tire that didn’t puncture it. The bead-to-bead construction is what separates Armadillo Elite from the BlackBelt protection in the Turbo Pro.

The Roubaix Name
Paris-Roubaix is the “Hell of the North” a spring classic over cobblestones, rough pave, and road debris that shreds tires. The Roubaix tire is designed for those conditions: fast rolling center, protective casing, GRIPTON grip. If you ride any rough roads, chip seal, or urban debris, the Roubaix name means something. This isn’t a tire for pristine smooth roads only it’s for riders who encounter the real world.
